Imolites What Do You Think About The Opinion Of Chima

PLEASE DONT MIND ITS A BIT LONG TEXT, TAKE YOUR TIME AND READ THROUGH AND SHARE YOUR VIEW.

Imolites on this page; as a lover of landscaping, natural beauty and leisure, i havejust a ´sugestion i feel will help our great city become even more beautified and probably a tourist destination.

What do you guys think about the river that passed through the city capital, downhill when you are coming from Assumpta cathedral towards bank road (its either call otammiri or so) and its believed to have its source (a spring) somewhere in Egbu.

I want to suggest we make something out of it by cleaning its water way and prevent refuse dumping. It properly taken care, it could serve as some sort of recreational site and people could go swimming there. The beauty of it is its in the heart of the city and there use to be an industry beside it (i don't remember what the industry used to produced) but it got burnt and abandoned.

This project will add value and beauty to our state, create job for the youths and also a source of income for the state. What do you guys think about it. Opinions needed, and when we hear what people have to say about it, we could through proper channels relate this project idea to the state government, i believe in the power of social media, with lot of people demanding to see this project come true, we could affect the decision of the current government as we could see that it is development oriented

Nigeria: Imo Focuses On Youth Empowerment, Plans Summit

Nigeria: Imo Focuses On Youth Empowerment, Plans Summit
The maiden edition of Imo State stakeholders' summit is billed to hold in Owerri in November, where the integrated young people's action plan would be formally presented to the public.

This plan followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Imo state government and a non-governmental organisation, Forward Africa, on the process.

The MoU is an aftermath of the development of a three-year young people development action plan, which was produced through a coalition of Ministries, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), departments and Agencies. The action plan, for 2012 to 2015, was facilitated by Forward Africa, and sponsored by the Ford Foundation.

The action plan, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, was presented to the state government through the Imo State Ministry of Youth and Sports, which also signed the MoU on behalf of the state.

In a speech at the signing ceremony, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Kenneth Emelu, commended the NGO for initiating such a noble project that would catalyse various youth empowerment programmes in the state that would be of immense benefit to the young people.

The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Obinna Ofomadu, pledged that the government would render the necessary support and provide logistics to ensure successful implementation of the project.

Earlier, the Executive Director of Forward Africa, Chibuzo Oriuwa, had thanked the various government ministries and agencies for partnering the NGO to develop the action plan. Oriuwa expressed happiness with the Ford Foundation for funding the project.

The Imo state young people development action plan is a product of intensive collaboration and dedication by the core stakeholders that matter in the delivering of services to young people.

Also involved in the formulation of the action plan are the CSOs and the media. The document had earlier been ratified by the advisory body on the integrated project to improve the young people reproductive health and development.

Commenting on the action plan, Oriuwa observed that the youths suffered a lot of neglect which had led them to various negative forms of behaviour.

"The societal ills associated with the young people can be checked if deliberate programmes are planned to involve the youths in the various activities of the government", the Executive Director stated.

She explained that Forward Africa was implementing a project titled 'Building and expanding partnership for promoting integrated programming to prove the sexual and reproductive health of in-school youths in South East Nigeria', with the support from the Ford Foundation.

According to her, Forward Africa has carried out advocacy visits to various officers connected with youth programmes in Imo.

"So far, 147 teachers in various Junior Secondary Schools have been trained on the family life and HIV Education (FLHE) Curriculum and the training is still on-going, with plan under way to train all the Area Inspectors of Education (AIE) in the state before the end of 2012," Oriuwa said.

Abductors of Imo Dep gov’s aide demand N40m

THE abductors of Emenike Ihekwuaba,  the Principal Secretary to the Imo State Deputy Governor, Jude Agbaso, have demanded about N40 million before they can release their victim, a source told The Guardian yesterday.
Emenike, a massively built personality, who has the status of a permanent secretary in the state’s civil service, was abducted on his way to Nkwerre to attend a function in the company of his wife and  driver and put in the booth of the abductors’ vehicle on September 26, 2012, at Amaraku Junction, in Isiala Mbano Local Council, Imo State.     The source from Government House, Owerri, said that Deputy Governor, Jude Agbaso, was working to ensure the release of his aide.

“The abductors have opened discussion with the relatives and they are demanding N40 million. This is huge money. Where will such money come from? They don’t have such savings,” the source said.

Ihekwuaba, a devout Christian and official of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (CATOL), Owerri, was said to have returned from church, and decided to attend a function at his ancestral home.

He was buying some things before proceeding on his journey when the abductors blocked his car and abducted him.

Imo awards N3b new stadia contracts

IN its bid to reposition sports in the state, the Imo State Government has awarded fresh contracts valued at about N3 billion for the construction of two stadia in two zones of the state, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kenneth Emelue, disclosed.

The stadia are located in Orlu and Okigwe, while the existing Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri is undergoing full rehabilitation, reflecting the balance in the three senatorial zones of the state.

Addressing journalists at the Sports Ministry’s Conference Hall in Owerri on Monday, Emelu, who came in company of the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Obinna Ufonmadu, and other directors, named the contractors as ARON Nigeria Limited, represented by an engineer, Adeola Adenuga, and Reform Group, Abuja, with its representatives as Godwin Emokhare and Ifeanyi Irogementi.

Emelu said the state government has paid 30 per cent of the contract sum, expecting the job to be completed in less than a year, adding that they would be paid fully based on their performance according to the terms of the contract.

According to the commissioner, each of the Okigwe and Orlu stadia has 15,000 sitting capacity, while Dan Anyiam has 13,000, but the Owerri Stadium would get Olympic-standard facilities very soon.

“The rehabilitation of Dan Anyiam Stadium will soon begin and new facilities expected there are those you normally find in Olympic-standard stadia,” he added.

He regretted that the construction of another Olympic-size stadium along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, was disrupted by members of the community at Area K, adding that the governor had made part payment to the contractors before they were stopped by the villagers.

Responding, the representatives of the two contractors, Emokhare (Reform Group) and Adenuga (ARON) said they were happy to identify with the development of the state through sports, among others, promising to deliver as scheduled given the availability of resources.
